The Normandy Liberty Bell

First Digital Copy of the Liberty Bell Allows for Exact Reproduction

Projects - Liberty Bell

In February 2004, engineers from Direct Dimensions used advanced 3D laser imaging technology to capture the exact shape and contour of the original Liberty Bell on-site in Philadelphia. The raw 3D data was converted into a highly accurate digital CAD model permanently documenting the exact dimensions of our cultural heritage.

The Normandy Liberty Bell

Using accurate 3D laser image data from the actual Liberty Bell, Direct Dimensions engineers created a 3D CAD model of the Pass & Stow original design from 1753 for the Liberty Bell, prior to the formation of the crack and with no casting or aging defects. This dimensional information was provided to the Cornille-Havard bell foundry in France to cast the Normandy Liberty Bell.

Liberty Bell Replication

Using accurate 3D laser image data from the original Liberty Bell, Direct Dimensions engineers created a high-resolution digital record of every aspect of the Bell including the wooded headstock, the hanging crown, the ringing clapper, the inscription text, and of course - the famous crack. This 3D computer model can be used to create exact reproductions in any size or material.
